Il terz’ ordine delle arcate si trova a 33 metri di altezza e permette ai visitatori di godere della vista interna di tutto l’Anfiteatro Flavio e del panorama della Città Eterna. I sotteranei invece sono la zona più suggestiva forse di tutto il Colesseo, ma anche la più macabra. Vi si accede dalla porta Libitinaria – dedicata dai Romani alla Dea Libitina, dea dei Funerali – e si entra nell’area dove i gladiatori attendevano il poprio destino, dove le ‘bestie’ erano issate nell’arena e dove venivano raccolti i cadaveri.
